Saving Swans with Away & Back

Most of our work is for sheer entertainment and I’m totally cool with that.  I personally seek entertainment every single day.  But occasionally, our work gets to serve a greater purpose.  We get to inform or call attention, through fictional narrative, to something important.   Away & Back was a project like that.

This Saturday we’re showing Away & Back at our local high school auditorium as a free screening for our community to raise awareness and fundraise for the Swan Safe Power Line Project.  If we can raise enough money before the snow flies we can bury the power lines (just like Frankie’s Dad did in the Away & Back!) along a 1 mile stretch of land where a dozen swans were electrocuted last year.

First Look at Book Cover!

It was a big day for The Dyers. While Stephen & I were still lying in bed trying to ignore the kids, I checked my email and found that Kendra Levin, our editor at Viking Books, had sent something with the subject line “The Season Cover.” If that doesn’t wake you up, nothing will

After checking the spelling of our names, replying to Kendra and sharing it on Facebook, I spent most of the day pouring over the marketing packet she sent in a second email.  There is so much to do and think about over the next 9 months until the book’s release.  I finished up the day by finally pulling the trigger on a domain name and setting up our author website.

And so, while we’ve been working on this book for over a year, the marketing and promotion of The Season officially began for us today.  It’s an exciting time.
